Ohio police department to offer active killer training to the public

WBNS (CBS Columbus) is reporting that the Grove City Division of Police said all people should have options when faced with chaotic and potentially deadly events.

From the article:

"Maybe escape and evacuation is their best option and how they can do that safely, knowing what to look for, what to listen for," said Grove City Police Sgt. Rick Hardy.

Hardy said his department will offer a 4 1/2 hour course on active shooter defense training later this month.

Hardy said sometimes there are better options than just staying in a room, locking the door and waiting to be rescued.

"What if we have children who have medical issues and they need medication," said Hardy. "Are we prepared for that? What if I have to get out of the room? How do I get out of the room? How do I break a window? How do I do it safely?"

Hardy said it comes down to a person's individual capability and what they feel comfortable doing.

According to the article, the training will take place at the Kingston school in Grove City on June 30.

Those who want to take part in the training are asked to contact Grove City Parks and Recreation Department:
