Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From a meeting of antigun mayors to the nationwide carry of handguns for police, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

12/2/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Area, State Leaders Meet To Discuss Illegal Gun Trafficking

From the article:

Menino and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg co-founded the coalition, Mayors Against Illegal Guns, in 2006 to work with legislators to close loopholes in state laws that enable criminals to obtain guns.

Don't let their statements fool you. The Mayors Against Illegal Guns does NOT respect the Second Amendment. To them, ALL guns should be illegal.

11/29/08: Middletown, Ohio: Police Chief Shoots Self While Teaching Daughter Gun Safety

From the article:

Monroe police said Chief Greg Schwarber accidentally shot himself in the leg at his home on Todhunter Road Friday afternoon.

It looks like Chief Schwarber should be attending gun safety classes instead of teaching one.

11/28/08: Monroe, Ohio: Kroger Clerk Bound With Tape After Robbery

From the article:

A clerk at a Kroger fuel station was bound with tape after a robbery Thursday afternoon in Monroe.

Thankfully, the clerk was not hurt. If it ever happened again, hopefully the clerk will be prepared to defend himself.

11/27/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Man Stabbed, Killed In Home

From the article:

He was stabbed in the left chest. He was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was pronouced dead at 1:08 p.m.

The victim was killed in his home in the middle of the afternoon. ALWAYS be prepared to defend yourself!

11/26/08: Akron, Ohio: 1 Dead, 3 Shot In Barbershop Shootout

Police said that the 22-year-old gunman walked into the barbershop just after 9 p.m., made threats and flashed a gun.

The man began to fire the gun and the owner of the barbershop, who was also armed, fired back, officers said.

This incident could have easily turned out a lot worse if the victims were unarmed and unable to defend themselves.

11/21/08: Nationwide: Court Rules Cops Can Carry Guns ... Nationwide!

From the article:

A ruling on a case from South Dakota -- where off-duty law enforcement officers were criminally charged for carrying guns despite the authority to do so under the federal 'Law Enforcement Officer's Safety Act of 2004' (LEOSA) -- has confirmed that all qualified off-duty and retired law enforcement are allowed, by federal law, to carry a concealed gun for personal self-defense irrespective of state law.

This is a good start, but what about your average law-abiding citizen? Don't citizens have the same right as the police to defend our family anywhere in the US?
