Would-be armed robber flees after confronted by restaurant worker with gun

Cleveland.com is reporting that a man armed with a handgun attempting to rob a restaurant ended up fleeing the store empty-handed after a clerk pulled out his own firearm.

From the article:

Police say the suspect entered the Broaster Chicken on the 100 block of South Portage Path at about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. The man initially placed an order for several items.

As clerk collected the items, the suspect took out a handgun, police say. The clerk drew his own firearm and the suspect then ran from the store. No shots were fired.

"No shots were fired," yet lives were potentially saved.

While we are pleased that this self-defense encounter was reported, the fact is that the number of times when a firearm is used to stop an attack is incalculable because they often go unreported.

According to the police report, the suspect is between 20 and 30 years old and 180 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a black baseball cap, black jacket, black pants, white gloves and a skeleton face mask. Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect.
