Dear Toby: The answer to the question

Last week, OFCC PAC reported that gun ban extremist Toby Hoover, who fronts what often appears to be a one-woman show at the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence, had sent an email listing some of the recent incidents of gun violence around Ohio.

And as we have done in the past, OFCC PAC set about to reveal the truth between the li(n)es in Hoover’s missive.

We pointed out just some of the many gun control laws that were broken in the commission of the crimes Hoover listed, and we asked the question: “Just what exactly does Toby Hoover believe passage of MORE gun control laws will solve, anyways?”

Hoover hasn’t seen fit to answer our question, but she has responded, in an email claiming entitled “Ohio gun boys don’t know the question”.

Ohio gun boys don’t know the question:

This sexist, ageist stereotype of the incredibly diverse body that make up the pro-self-defense community in Ohio is likely to offend the many female and elderly gun owners and shooters in our state, and is representative of how little respect this gun ban extremist has for her fellow citizens.

Last week we sent an alert reminding you of the toll of gun violence. We mentioned a few of the gun incidents that happened in Ohio during that week. People continue to lose their lives, families are changed forever, and survivors look for answers. People go to jail and their families are changed as well.

Indeed they do, but why blame the inanimate objects they use in the commission of their crimes? Operator accidents occur far more frequently with motor vehicles than guns. Motor vehicles are consistently used to commit crimes, and are also used as two-ton weapons. A recent headline screamed, "Drivers on Cell Phones Kill Thousands". Another headline warns that Falling down is rated top cause of serious injuries. According to the Centers for Disease Control, more people are injured in lawn mower accidents each year than are injured with firearms, both intentionally and accidentally. Why no call from Hoover for "common sense regulation of" cars or cell phones or lawn mowers? Why no calls to make falling down a felony?

A few members of the Ohio gun lobby (Murray and John) were ‘thoughtful’ enough to send us the Ohio gun lobby website answers to each of the incidents. The site pointed out that each incident involved someone breaking the law and suggested many incidents could have been avoided if the people were educated. The gun site could then conclude that laws don’t work because some people break them.

Being that they are signed up to receive our emails fraudulently pretending to support common sense regulation of firearms they will most surely be able to email us again and devote hours of rebuttal to anything our organization says.

We don’t know who Murray or John are, but we are none-the-less perplexed by Hoover’s accusations that persons who sign up for her email list, but who disagree with her radical views, are somehow committing fraud. There is no disclaimer on her website indicating that only people who agree with her may receive email from her organization.

We send this so that they can attempt to understand the questions before they erroneously give answers.

Ah, yes, we are certain Hoover would like to dictate all the questions in this debate, just as we’re certain John Kerry would like to have dictated all the questions asked of him during his campaign. As Americans know from enduring years of mainstream media bias, it is much easier to control the political discourse when you have a strangle-hold on the flow of information. Although Hoover ignored our question (“Just what exactly does Toby Hoover believe passage of MORE gun control laws will solve, anyways?”), we will be happy to answer hers.

The questions are how does anyone recognize the ‘law abiding’ gun owner from those gun owners that do break the law or will break the law?

How to recognize an Ohio CHL-holder: We’re the people who have gone through detailed background checks, submitted fingerprints, and undergone lengthy training, all in the pursuit of the ability to enjoy the God-given human right of self-protection, and the Constitutionally recognized civil right to bear arms for self-defense. We’re the people who are already proving to be some of the most law-abiding citizens in Ohio – just .09 percent of CHL-holders had their licenses revoked in 2004 (and some of those were because the license holder had passed away, and not due to any legal violation). By comparision, 7.00% of drivers' licenses in the State of Ohio were suspended in 2003.

Is there some guarantee that gun owners can give us that they will always be ‘law abiding’?

Is there any guarantee Toby can give that SHE will? Lately, not even Ohio Supreme Court justices and Ohio police officers seem able to provide assurance that they can always be trusted to obey the law.

They should ask themselves just who and what they would be willing to regulate so that we can prevent gun death and injury. What will they do to stop violence?

We’re doing it, and are quite pleased with the results, thank you very much. For the first time in 150 years, citizens in the state of Ohio (45,562 and counting) are now able to exercise the human right of self-defense without fear of immediate incarceration and prosecution. For the first time in 150 years, criminals have to fear that their prey are no longer incapable defending themselves.

None of these incidents had anything to do with being a CCW permit holder but the question also applies to them.

    Quite.

A few weeks ago, and in the wake of yet another mass shooting in a place where guns were banned, Toby Hoover announced a push to "Change the Culture of Fear". OFCC promptly joined the call. Ohioans For Concealed Carry urges legislators, businesses owners, and the OCAGV to change the culture of fear - we must stop passing laws and enforcing company policies that are based on a fear of law-abiding citizens who choose to bear arms for self-defense!

In response to Hoover's question about what OFCC "would be willing to regulate so that we can prevent gun death and injury," and "what [we] will...do to stop violence", we would now like to invite Hoover's OCAGV to join US in a campaign to get the plethora of current gun laws STRICTLY enforced. Widely publized campaigns based on Virginia's Project Exile work - and we call upon our state and local governments to begin vigorously prosecuting people who use guns in crimes, instead of wasting their time passing gun bans that have already proven to be useless in the effort to prevent crime.

Will the OCAGV join us in this campaign to stop the violence?
