Democrat caucus names pro-concealed carry Senator as assistant minority leader

The Akron Beacon Journal is reporting that State Sen. Kimberly Zurz, D-Green, was elected Wednesday to be second in charge of the Ohio Senate Democratic Caucus.

The story notes that as assistant minority leader, Zurz will work with the leader, Sen. C.J. Prentiss of Cleveland, Whip Teresa Fedor of Toledo, and Assistant Whip Robert Hagan of Youngstown. Like Senator Zurz, Sens. Fedor and Hagan both voted in favor of Ohio's concealed carry law.

Senator Zurz replaces the anti-gun Mark Mallory, who won the mayoral election in Cincinnati last week.

The newspaper notes that Zurz, who represents Portage and parts of Summit County, has been in the Senate for two years. She previously served 11 years on Summit County Council.
