A bill working its way through the U.S. Senate, which promises to improve and simplify CCW reciprocity nationwide, may receive a vote today in the form of an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act (S. 1390).

S. 845 is a bill to amend chapter 44 of title 18, United States Code, to "allow citizens who have concealed carry permits from the State in which they reside to carry concealed firearms in another State that grants concealed carry permits, if the individual complies with the laws of the State."

In other words, if you have a license, you could carry in every state that allows concealed carry!

As a part of the consideration of National Defense Authorization Act (S. 1390), Senators John Thune (R-SD) and David Vitter (R-LA) will offer an amendment today to provide for interstate recognition of Right-to-Carry permits. There is a very high likelihood of a Senate floor vote on this important and timely pro-gun reform on TODAY OR TOMORROW.

Even before this news, the hoplophobes and anti-freedom activists have been spreading fear and predicting doom. Here's what Ohio's own Toby Hoover, head of the one-woman show called the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence, said in a recent news release:

Dangerous legislation is pending in the U.S. Senate that would force our communities to permit untrained and dangerous individuals from other states to carry loaded, hidden handguns in public.

S. 845, the "Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009," could dramatically increase the number of individuals carrying concealed handguns in public in your state.

This year, there have already been three confirmed MASS shootings by concealed carry permit holders.

"Dangerous" legislation? "Dangerous" individuals? "Deadly" weapons? "Mass" shootings? Does all this sound familiar? The anti-gun nuts have used the same hysterical "blood running in the streets" argument every time a piece of CCW legislation has come up.

And every time they've been wrong. Every...single...time!

CCW works. It works in Ohio where the rules are strict. It works in Alaska and Vermont where the rules are virtually nonexistant. It works in every state in the U.S. that allows concealed carry. And if the other states had concealed carry, it would work there too. So there is no reason why any law abiding person shouldn't be able to carry a gun in any state.

And it's time to explain this to our state Senators. It's time to call Ohio Senators Voinovich and Brown and tell them to SUPPORT S. 845, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2009.

Here are their phone numbers:
Senator George Voinovich – 202-224-3353
Senator Sherrod Brown – 202-224-2315

Tell them to throw their support behind the amendment mandating interstate recognition of right-to-carry permits and licenses.

It's likely you'll talk to a staff member and not a Senator. Be polite. Be brief. Say your piece and thank them for their time.

Toby Hoover and the anti-gun activists don't have much support. They might generate 5 or 6 calls. But if that's all the Senators hear, they may assume people don't want this bill. So we need to show our Senators how many people SUPPORT this amendment. We want to generate 5000 or 6000 calls. We want our Senators to see how disproportionately pro-gun Ohio really is.

Flood the phone lines. Call BOTH Senators. Remind them that important elections are just around the corner and you'll remember how they voted on this issue.

There is no gun issue we cannot win IF GUN OWNERS LIKE YOU JUST MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR! The only reason we ever lose is when gun owners are silent.

Thank you for your loyal and unwavering support. Now...make those calls.

Yours for Freedom,
Jim Irvine, Chairman

P.S. If the line is busy, call back. Don't give up. Keep calling until you get through. Call BOTH Senators. Tell them to support and vote YES on the amendment to S. 1390. Call several times if you like.
