Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From asking about guns to the increase in CHL licenses, these articles should be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

4/10/09: National: Before Arranging Playdates, Ask About Guns

From the article:

Nearly 1.7 million children live in homes with firearms that are loaded and unlocked, and every day eight children die from guns," he said. "These statistics are unacceptable.

The statistics are misleading. In order to get the "eight children a day die from guns" you have to include all of the "children" who are killed while selling drugs, comitting, gang warfare, comitting robbery and other crimes. Stay tuned to BuckeyeFirearms.org for an exclusive story debunking this bilge.

4/9/09: Cleveland, Ohio: Man Shot, Killed On Way Home From Work

From the article:

Cummings was walking southbound on East 108 Street when an unknown man approached him from behind and ordered him to "lay it down," streetspeak for "this is a robbery," Stacho said. The victim attempted to flee on foot when he was shot.

Another senseless violent crime in the city of Cleveland. When will they quit wasting their time targeting law-abiding gun owners and go after real criminals?

4/6/09: State Wide: Gun Regulation: Would It Stop Senseless Killings

From the article:

Toby Hoover heads up the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence. She says she's not trying to prevent people from owning guns, but is calling for changes to a system she says makes it too easy to buy guns.

Hoover is trying to prevent you from carrying and owning a gun. Don't let her fool you.

4/5/09: Columbus, Ohio: 2 OSU Students Robbed At Gunpoint Near Campus

From the article:

Two female Ohio State University students reported to OSU police that they were robbed at gunpoint near campus last night.

Another violent gun crime strikes in a so-called gun free zone. When will we finally admit that gun-free zones only create criminal protection zones?

4/4/09: Lebanon, Ohio: Many Gun Permits Sought For Protection

From the article:

Protection seems to be the No. 1 reason people seek to obtain their concealed-carry permit to carry a loaded firearm.

Warren County Sheriff Larry Sims said most people who obtain the permit do so to make themselves feel safer and to protect their families.

What other reason did they expect? Protection is the reason that we carry everyday, and everywhere we can.

4/4/09: Columbus, Ohio: Jewelers Know Robbery Risks, Take Precautions

From the article:

Jewelers know robbery risks, take precautions and never, ever stop your vehicle if you don't have to.

Jewelers know that you have to be able to defend yourself, because you cannot count on the police for protection.

3/19/09: Lima, Ohio: A Call To Arms: CCW Requests On The Rise

From the article:

Area sheriffs continue to issue concealed-carry licenses at a record pace and some counties already have passed last year's count.

This is great news for many reasons. One reason is that it means that more people will be able to defend themselves. It also means that CHL holders will have a stronger political voice.
