Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout
By Chris Chumita
There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.
What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.
From guns stolen from a flea market to police departments trading old confiscated guns for equipment, these articles should be a part of your required reading!
What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.
1/18/09: Clinton County, Ohio: Thieves Steal Guns From Flea Market
From the article:
Thieves broke into the Caesers Creek Flea Market overnight and made off with several guns.
Criminals usually do not obtain guns in a legal manner. They usually obtain them by theft and other illegal means. If you have any information concerning this crime, contact the authorities as soon as possible.
1/17/09: Middletown, Ohio: 3 Masked Gunmen Rob WesBanco Branch
From the article:
The robbery occurred about 11:10 a.m. The men wore ski masks and at least two displayed guns, according to Middletown police Lt. Rodney Muterspaw.
Always be prepared to defend yourself. Violent crime can happen anywhere at anytime. If you have a CHL, do NOT leave home without your gun.
1/15/09: Trotwood, Ohio: 2 Men Wanted In Trotwood Home Invasion
From the article:
Police are looking for two men who forced their way into a Trotwood house.
Home invasons like this one appear to be happening more and more. Thanks to the recently-passed Castle Doctrine, we can defend our homes from home invaders without the threat of a civil lawsuit.
1/15/09: Cleveland, Ohio: Cleveland Security Guards Could Carry 9mm Revolvers If Law Passes
From the article:
City Council's Public Safety Committee discussed a proposal Wednesday that would allow security guards to upgrade their weapons from .38-caliber revolvers to 9 mm semiautomatic pistols. The committee tabled the proposal until it can be amended to include a training requirement and a more specific description of the guns that would be allowed.
The city of Cleveland shows their anti-gun bias once again. There is absolutely no reason that the city should have a law prohibiting security officers from carrying semi-autos.
1/15/09: Centerville, Utah: Man Hurt When Gun Blasts Toilet
From the article:
"In this case it appears that the accident would have been prevented if the man had used a secure holster," Child said. "A good quality firearm also should not fire if it is dropped."
Do not buy the cheapest holster that you can find. If you are carrying a gun, you must carry it in a high quality holster. Also, a Kahr is a high quality firearm and it should NOT have fired when it was dropped. There is either more to this story or there was a serious flaw in that specific gun.
1/14/09: State Wide: A Rush On Guns
From the article:
People fear that the new Congress and the new administration will join forces to push a ban on assault rifles, to restrict magazines that hold more than six rounds and to impose sharply higher taxes on bullets. So they are snatching up pistols, AK-47s, AR-15s and cases of ammunition while they can, the shop owners say.
The local rush reflects a national phenomenon that started in November. The barometer - a national system of background checks involving gun sales - shows a 41 percent increase in November over the same month a year ago. Even with the recession in force, December numbers also were up 23 percent compared to 2007, according to the FBI data.
I wish this many people were this worried about their Second Amendment rights BEFORE the election.
12/31/08: State Wide: Ohio Police Seek To Exchange Souvenir Firearms
From the article:
A collection of rifles, shotguns and handguns has done nothing but collect dust at the city's police department.
Now it's going to help get new equipment for officers.
Several police departments facing tight budgets are unloading souvenir firearms to raise money and buy new equipment.
This is a great idea! It is good to see that the firearms will not be destroyed.
