Center for Consumer Freedom Video: Wayne Pacelle and The HSUS Scam

by Chad D. Baus

The Center for Consumer Freedom has published a video comparing convicted Ponzi scheme operator "Bernie" Madoff with Wayne Pacell, President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

The video points out that HSUS gives less than one percent of its massive donations to local pet shelters, but, it has socked away more than $17 million dollars to its pension fund, and says that if you want to help your local pet shelters, you must give directly to your local shelter.

So long as we're discussing this corrupt organization, and I realize it's been four years, but I'd still love to know why Rush Limbaugh recorded two public service announcement messages for HSUS in 2009 - an inexplicable act, given his long-time opposition to animal rights extremists.

Our laws do not prevent us from killing animals for food or sport, so the right to life of an animal is nonexistent. ...[W]e are confronted daily by people who wish to obstruct human progress and individual economic choices by elevating the importance of animal existence to that of human existence.
- Rush Limbaugh, The Way Things Ought To Be, 1992

As then-U.S. Sportsmens Alliance (USSA) President Bud Pidgeon pointed out at the time, "many of Mr. Limbaugh's supporters are the very people targeted by the HSUS. By lending such a prominent voice to supporting HSUS, he is helping to deceive people about the real agenda of the organization."
