Throughout this election cycle, we have talked about how critical this presidential election is because of judicial appointments. Perhaps the issues at stake could be illustrated in no better way than through recent comments by retired Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens. How would you like to exchange your "right to keep and bear arms" with a "right to have a cell phone"? That is what Stevens and others like him would like to make happen.

CNSNews.com is reporting that Stevens, speaking at an event hosted by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence's Legal Action Project, said Monday said that having "some kind of constitutional right to a cell phone with a predialed 911 at your bedside might be better protection than a gun."

From the article:

Jonathan Lowy, Brady Center Legal Action Project director, read a question from the audience, saying: "The Supreme Court held that the 2nd Amendment assures our right to have a handgun in the home for self-defense as you say. This question's asked: That protects only gun owners. What about those who don't have guns? Surely they have a right of self-defense. Instead of relying on the 2nd Amendment and dealing with gun laws, wouldn't it be more rational to rely directly on the right we all have to self-defense. What are your thoughts on that?"

Stevens responded:

"I'm not sure I actually have captured the entire question, but it does occur to me that one thing that I thought about from time to time is that maybe you have some kind of constitutional right to have a cell phone with a predialed 911 number at your bedside, and that might provide you with a little better protection than a gun, which you're not used to using," Stevens said.

According to the article, Stevens was appointed to the high court in 1975 by President Gerald Ford. He retired in 2010. He is considered the third-longest serving justice.

Four years ago many were filled with the idea of "Hope and Change." Today there is no wondering if President Barack Obama would really nominate radically anti-freedom justices. He already did it - twice. Obama has appointed two Justices with the same type of warped thinking about the Constitution as Stevens' to the court - Justices Kagan and Sotomayor. If re-elected, he is likely to be able to appoint two, three or possibly four additional leftist, activist Justices.

Destroying the Second Amendment is what President Obama wants. It is was Justices Kagan and Sotomayer want. It will be the majority view on the United States Supreme Court, and likely the law of the land, if Obama is elected to a second term. It will be what we the people deserve if we elect him again. If we lose our rights now, we many never regain them. It is that serious.

We don't have to wonder to what lengths this administration might go to create a political environment ripe to confiscate your guns. They ran "Fast and Furious," where hundreds of people died, including multiple Americans. One of the slain was U.S. Border Patrol agent Brian Terry. They blame your guns and your right to own them. We blame them for illegally supplying Mexican gangs with guns, not even trying to track them, and just waiting the bodies to create a political opening for them.

As the NRA has correctly pointed out, this election is not about the next four years, it's about the next 40 years. It is the most dangerous election of our lifetime. We must all be "all in" or we may not survive to fight the next round.

The voting will be done in the next few days. Make sure you vote, and help your like-minded friends to get to the polls. This race is too close, and too important for any of us to sit it out.
