Home owner defends self, castle and 5 year-old against armed invader

By Gerard Valentino

WCMH TV, Columbus' NBC affiliate is reporting a home owner shot and killed an armed home invader who entered his house on the city's Southwest Side. Also home at the time, according to the report, was a 5 year-old relative of the homeowner, a woman, and another man who is bedridden.

From the story:

"There was a knock on the door. The resident went to the door, at which time the victim out front entered the house with a firearm in commission of an aggravated robbery," said CPD homicide Sgt. Dana Norman.

As the armed suspect entered the home, a man picked up his 5-year-old relative to protect child as well as a firearm and fired shots, according to authorities.

The suspect attempted to flee the home after being wounded but collapsed on the porch. He died a short time later.

...No charges were filed against the man who shot the intruder currently, but the case will be presented to the Franklin County grand jury for review.

The anti-gun community is always screaming that protecting kids is the reason they fight to ban guns. Yet, according to their misguided viewpoint, this child apparently doesn't count.

Here is a perfect example of the other edge of the gun-control sword - one which the anti-gun crowd does their best to suppress.

Had this homeowner been disarmed, instead of one dead thug, there would likely have been two innocent people brutally murdered. The simple fact is when a home invasion has this outcome, it is the best possible ending to an otherwise horrible incident. Two innocent people are still here and still capable of benefitting society. In contrast, a predatory thug was removed as a burden to society forever.

Any death is a tragedy, even when a felon is killed while perpetrating a crime. Still, such an outcome is preferred over the brutal murder of an honest home owner, and an innocent 5 year-old. We also know, without question, that this armed thug will never commit another crime or victimize another honest citizen.

Those willing to disarm honest people claim their anti-gun polices are viable if they only save one life. Here we have a case where the pro-gun community can show how an armed citizen saved two innocents lives.

In the eyes of the anti-gun groups, however, there is no distinction between the death of a life-long criminal and the death of an innocent 5 year-old.

Nothing can be further from the truth, and while it isn't a politically correct viewpoint, the simple fact is that, in this case, the good guys won.
