FLASHBACK: ''Packin' Heat - Queen City of the Wild West''

As we approach the onset of hearings the House and Senate on HB12, the steering commitee of OFCC PAC (and also OFCC) are hard at work to be prepared with FACTS to counter the obligatory rhetoric that will be spouted by the liberal anti-self-defense crowd.

We know we'll hear the same, tired, fear-based warnings about what might happen if "citizens carry hidden, loaded guns." Despite the fact that it hasn't happened in any other of the 44 states with some sort of CCW, these anti-self-defense groups seem convinced that Ohioans will be reduced to violent confrontation at every whim.

So we thought it'd be a good idea to refresh memories and answer the question everyone is asking... What DOES happen in Ohio when law-abiding citizens are allowed to exercise their right to self-defense?

NOTHING...at least, nothing bad!

FLASHBACK: April 17, 2002 -
"For nearly five days, Cincinnati has been the most wide-open city in the Wild West. And nothing has happened."

There were actually TWO periods of time in
Hamilton County where carrying a firearm was legal (for some three weeks time combined). First when the lower court issued a temporary restraining order, and when the Appeals Court allowed their emergency stay to "expire" without a renewal. The ban is, of course, back to being enforced there, awaiting a Supreme Court ruling.

Meanwhile, the media has STILL been largely complicit in enforcing a blackout on the situation in Seneca County. Nearly three weeks ago, the ban on concealed carry was ruled unconstitutional in Seneca County. One could assume that more citizens have chosen to exercise their constitutional rights to bear arms for self-defense since that ruling. And yet not one incident involving a problem with law-abiding citizens carrying a firearm has occurred in Seneca County.
