Pro-Gun Punditry: Wednesday's Buckeye State Roundabout

By Chris Chumita

There are more stories pertaining to our gun rights in Ohio then we can possibly draw attention to with individual daily commentary. But they are all worthy of mention.

What follows is our review of headlines from around the state though a pro-gun rights lens.

From criminals running for Cleveland City Council to a man who was trying to stop a hostage situation being shot by the police, these articles being told to stop calling 911 before she was murderedshould be a part of your required reading!

What follows is several days of headlines accompanied by short, concise pro-gun analysis.

3/18/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Convicted Killer On Ballot For Council Seat

From the article:

A convicted killer and two other candidates with criminal records are among the choices for Cleveland voters going to the polls in a special election for an open City Council seat.

It looks like the thugs in Cleveland may soon have a representative on Cleveland City Council.

3/17/08: Akron, Ohio: KFC Robbed Over Weekend

From the article:

Employees told police that two men entered the restaurant and approached the counter. One of them pulled out a pistol and demanded money from the register.

More violent crime that was not prevented by the police. We must be prepared to protect ourselves at all times, because the police cannot be everywhere. Besides, the Supreme Court has already ruled that the police do not have a duty to protect an individual citizen.

3/17/08: Burton, Ohio: Child With Gun Causes School To Be Put On Lockdown

From the article:

Burton Elementary School was on lockdown after an 11-year-old child ran out his home with a gun.

Locking down a school is not enough! The teachers and staff should be permitted to carry a firearm to protect themselves and the students.

3/17/08: Bowling Green, Ohio: 2 Men In Bowling Green Hit, Robbed In 2 Attacks

From the article:

Two young men were mugged within 10 minutes of one another early yesterday morning in Bowling Green, authorities said.

The 22 year old victim can learn from his mistake of being defenseless and get his CHL. Unfortuantely, the law keeps the 20 year old victim disarmed and defenseless from any future attacks until his 21st birthday.

3/13/08: Hilliard, Ohio: Bond Set For Man Accused Of Raping Real Estate Employee

From teh article:

A judge ordered a man accused of raping a woman at a condominium complex be held under $500,000 bond on Thursday. Detectives said on March 6, Egan Collier posed as a homebuyer at the Hayden's Reserve condo complex and asked to be shown a unit, 10TV's Patrick Bell reported.

Real estate agents often have meet strangers in empty builings by themselves. This incident is another tragic example of how import a firearm can be. If the victim had a firearm, she may have been able to succussfully fight of the attacker.

3/13/08: Cleveland, Ohio: Cleveland Courthouse Security Guard John Robinson Gets Marshal's Service Award

From the article:

The .380-caliber semiautomatic gun was loaded with five rounds. Hamilton, of East Cleveland, was at the courthouse to meet his probation officer for a prior gun offense. He has pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal officer and gun charges in the incident.

Those gun control laws work so well to deter criminals, don't they?

3/13/08: Amherst, Ohio: Police Shoot At Man Trying To Stop Hostage Situation

From the article:

Somehow, the citizen who alerted police got the gun away from Gonzalez and then started running toward police. That's when another officer who just arrived at the scene shot at him, but missed.

Hopefully, more information will come out so we can get a better understanding of what happened. However, there are already several lessons that we can already learn from this incident.
