BFA welcomes Rob Sexton as Legislative Affairs Director

With 18 anti-gun bills under consideration in the Ohio Statehouse and a field of Democrat presidential candidates promising draconian gun control, this is a challenging time for pro Second Amendment organizations.

But it's a challenge Rob Sexton is willing to take on as he joins Buckeye Firearms Association as its Legislative Affairs Director.

“We're pleased to welcome Rob to the team,” said Executive Director Dean Rieck. “He brings more than 25 years of professional government affairs experience to our Legislative Committee.”

Rob graduated from The Ohio State University with a BA in Political Science and started his professional career as an aide in the Ohio House of Representatives, learning the political ropes from the ground up, coordinating committees and analyzing legislation.

He went on to work for Sportsmen's Alliance for 17 years, joining the fight against the animal rights lobby, advocating for the rights of gun owners, hunters, and sportsmen in Ohio and many other states. His experience includes designing and implementing legislative and ballot issue campaigns at the state and national level, coordinating successful lobbying efforts, managing staff and fundraising campaigns, creating effective grassroots volunteer and organizational coalitions, and acting as spokesman for a wide variety of hunting issues.

Rob advanced to the position of Senior Vice President before starting his own consulting business in 2012 to bring his considerable skills to such organizations as the American Kennel Club, National Shooting Sports Foundation, Maine Wildlife Conservation Council, and the North American Gamebird Association. He has worked with BFA and other leading organizations on the Sportsmen’s Alliance’s Protect What's Right campaign to address multi-million dollar shortfalls in funding for public shooting ranges and other outdoor assets in Ohio, which are key to exercising Second Amendment rights and maintaining Ohio's robust economy.

Rob is a lifelong gun owner, an avid hunter and outdoorsman who sees the challenges facing gun owners with a clear eye. Rob especially enjoys deer and bird hunting with his father and sons, and is currently teaching hid daughter to shoot. “I’ve enjoyed defending hunting because it is part of our DNA as human beings that we can trace back for thousands of years. But the Second Amendment is absolutely fundamental to our freedom as Americans. Now more than ever it is essential for gun owners to unify to protect our rights. I’m grateful to have the opportunity to join Buckeye Firearms Association, which has accomplished so much over the years for Ohio’s 4 million gun owners.”
